Wonderfully Extraordinary & Excitingly Strange
Hoku Uchiyama, multi award winning director of the film ROSE, had this to say about WONDERFULLY EXTRAORDINARY & EXCITINGLY STRANGE: “The script really sucked me in. It’s very charming and seductive. Part of its charm is its vivid imagery. It’s very easy to see design and visuals when reading it. The whole story carries very strong emotion, with the smaller moments resonating just as much as the bigger ones.”
Logline: A boy and girl share friendship, adventure and love … while meeting in dreams.
Synopsis: Have you ever had one of those dreams where everything seems so real? Like, you know you’re dreaming, but you go along with it anyway. Well, when nine-year-old Cerulean awoke to the giggle of Turquoise sitting at the end of his bed, it was one of those dreams. Fleeting as it was, Cerulean knew she was real, and that something wonderfully extraordinary and excitingly strange was going on. But what he didn’t know, was, there would be other dreams to come.
Surviving a plummeting hot-air balloon, an embarrassing scene on American Idol, and the dungeon of a malicious king who hasn’t bathed in thirty years, would be only a few of those dreams. Over the years, there would be sweet dreams too: Like the time in the small boat, when she held his hand and the butterflies came. Or the dream when he almost kissed her. Woe, if only not to wake.
For things weren’t nearly as rosy in the conscious world. His funky style and his love for singing have always cast him as the black sheep. And though he’s tight with his Papa, Rocco, a divorced single parent, a rift occurs in their relationship when Rocco learns that even at sixteen, Cerulean continues to believe in Turquoise, and has no interest in any other girl but her: A girl in a dream.
But Cerulean can’t help himself. He’s in love. Woe, if only he didn’t have to close his eyes to see hers.
… Or does he?
Wonderfully Extraordinary & Excitingly Strange weaves fantasy and reality into a compelling story intended for adults and children of all ages.
